Allah has commanded forgiveness in many verses in Holy Quran as it is obvious in the given verses:

فَاعْفُوا وَاصْفَحُوا (البقرة: 109)

Translation: So pardon and overlook.

وَالْكَاظِمِينَ الْغَيْظَ وَالْعَافِينَ عَنِ النَّاسِ ( آل عمران :134)

Translation: And who restrain anger and who pardon the people.

ii. Forgiveness in the light of hadees:

The Holy Prophet directed to adopt quality of forgiveness. Some of his sayings are:

  • Forgive each other; your mutual rivalries will be over.

  • The (real) wrestler is not that who defeats others but the one who controls himself during anger.

  • A person who may take revenge but forgives the wrongdoing of others to please Allah J, then Allah will increase his honor on the Day of Judgment.

iii. Forgiveness and pattern of Holy Prophet:

Hazrat Muhammad intended to embark on journey of Taif on seeing the severe opposition of Quraish, so that to preach people of Taif. The leaders of Taif instead of saying welcome to the invitation of the Prophet, behaved very badly and cruelly with him. They threw so many stones at the Prophet that his body was bleeding and his shoes were full of blood: On this occasion, Hazrat Jibraeel came and requested, "If you order, I join mountains of both sides of Taif so that these mischievous people get crushed," but the Holy Prophet not only forgave them, rather he prayed in their favor. Oh Allah, "Give them hidayat, guidance. ". On the conquest of Makkah. there was gathering of Quraish in the courtyard of Ka'abah. Those were the people who had been there to intrigue to kill the Prophet. They killed so many Muslims and gave so many troubles to the Holy Prophet and Muslims so that they had to migrate from Makkah to Madinah. Those infidels of Quraish were so scared and thought that Muslims would take harsh revenge from them. Hazrat Muhammad paid attention to them and said: "O tribe of Quraish! Do you know, how am I going to treat you??

They replied, "You will treat mercifully; as you are yourself kind and son of a kind brother.". The Holy Prophet then recited this verse of Holy Quran:

قال لا تريب عَلَيْكُمُ الْيَوْمَ يَغْفِرُ اللهُ لَكُمْ وَهُوَ ارْحَمُ الرَّحِمِينَ (يف (92)

Translation; He said, "No claim will there be upon you today. Allah will forgive you, and he is the most merciful of the merciful.
